Debbie “The Dip-Gal” Polito, of Duncansville, was one of the many vendors that participated in the outdoor flea market over the weekend in Alum Bank.

A modified tractor pull opened the Alum Bank Community Fire Company’s Antique and Classic Weekend, with a parade, pig roast, flea market, and for the first time a semi-truck show to round out the event.

The truck show was an idea by Brody McDonald, a Chestnut Ridge sophomore. McDonald went to the committee with his idea for a semi-truck show similar to the car concepts they showcase.

The exposition had 38 trucks on display.

When asked where the notion came from, McDonald said, “My dad drives truck. I’ve always had a big passion for it and it’s what I want to be.” McDonald said he took his vision to the fire department because, “I’d do anything I can to help the community.”

McDonald was excited to learn his idea would be used in future events. The trucks were showcased on Saturday before the car registration.

More than 400 cars participated in Friday’s Cruise-In and there were about 235 antique and classic cars on display for Saturday’s main event. A 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria in tropical rose and snowshoe white was on display by owner Joe Dibert of Bedford.

“Everybody knows my car,” Dibert said. “I have been coming here for 22 years.”

The large outdoor flea market showcased several local vendors selling baked goods, specialty gifts, food vendors and more.

Debbie “The Dip Gal” Polito from the Dip Depot of Duncansville said she recently moved back to the area after 45 years on the West Coast. Polito makes dry seasoning packets that are mixed into a base such as cream cheese to create dips and spreads.

The event concluded Saturday night with a fireworks display.

Brad Harbaugh, co-chair of the committee, said it was a successful weekend. Monies raised will be used to buy equipment, maintain the trucks, pump testing, hose testing, and to pay bills.

Harbaugh said he was overwhelmed and amazed by the support from the community. The event takes a year to plan with the help of 20 committee members and more than a 100 volunteers.

Harbaugh had several people he wished to thank, the community, sponsors, and especially McDonald. They are currently planning the Fall Cruise-In scheduled for August 27, and, due to its success’ the truck show will also be added to the line up.

Proceeds will benefit Conemaugh Nursing Health System.
